Can never recommend enough! Their fake meat is absolutely unbelievable! Have to try! Chilly and basil fried rice is sooo good! Their ‘fried chicken’! Omg! I think a meat lover would love it too! You can’t tell it’s actually plant based! We went there for lunch, then came back there to have dinner. A couple of weeks later, we went there for dinner and went back in the next day for lunch again! They are the best vegan restaurant in Melbourne I think!! Have to try!! I have been going to them so often for a very long period of time. They have a very high consistency of their dishes, always meet and exceed expectations. And they have new dishes coming out every month! You can feel they are making the meals out of heart not purely for business purpose. ~ Chenxi Z
Brother Bon is my families favourite vegan restaurant in Melbourne (or anywhere maybe). Every single thing I’ve tried is 10/10. There is so much time, effort and care put into their dishes. Not only the food but the service and staff attention to detail is second to none and doesn’t go unnoticed. I went to Brother Bon tonight with my two vegan sisters, vegetarian brother and Dad and my Mum who eats meat but loves eating vego and vegan. It was one of the best meals and experiences as usual. On top of this, the staff sung me happy birthday with a beautifully presented ice cream and churros with a candle and ‘happy birthday Maisie’ written in chocolate. I adore this business so much and hope they know how people appreciate what they do and create. ~ Maisie G
Probably the best Vegan/Veg option in Melbourne. Vietnamese focus. The food it mostly good - it has gotten a lot better lately. It's reasonably affordable and it comes out really quick. They are doing something right. Pretty heavy on the faux meats - it makes up most of the menu. But that is good because they kind of replicate some really nice dishes. They have a range of 6 or so Banh Mi interpretations for lunch as well as Vegan pies and sausage rolls. The dining area is enormous and feels a little bit like a hospital cafeteria - but replace the dying people with ex hippies that now have a job and can finally afford to eat out. Loving hut is part of a chain that has some association with a crazy cult lady guru - so that's always fun. ~ max
Loving Hut Northcote just keeps getting better and better. The food has always been good and the service has always been friendly, but the menu has gotten way more expansive. Most recently, I tried the chicken katsu curry, which is such a treat to be able to eat veganised. I also ate the crispy pork on rice (a bit dry for my liking, but still good). I would have preferred a mock pork to fried bean curd but alas. It features tapioca noodles to mimic the pork fat which is kind of freaky but interesting. I also tried my friend's Hainan chicken rice which was a special, but hopefully becomes a permanent menu addition. I always enjoy the nasi goreng with vegan egg (!) as well. One last perk about this spot that I just discovered is that they serve coffee well into the night, which is a huge point of attraction for me. ~ Quincy M
~ Cara X
Everything here is vegan, even the wine, beer, sake, self-made gelato & cones. The menu has a Vietnamese base with a Pan-Asian range. We came here for dinner at 7pm on a Thursday, already half packed. Soothing ambience. Our orders came up to AUD 105 for 2 pax. We had the chilli wonton, broken rice (the "egg" has a pumpkin yolk and tofu white, not fried), salad, warm sake, and yam gelato. All the waiters/waitresses were helpful with our questions. It's easy to get here from the city; we hopped on Tram 86 at Spring St/Bourke St, and alighted at Authorton St/High St (Northcote) about 20 mins later and you will find Brother Bon right at the bus stop. Just cross the road to Separation St/High St for Tram 86 back to the city. ~ Ash T
Howdy friends! Alex here, I just wanted to say thank you so much for being so beautiful and accommodating in helping me celebrate my partner’s Birthday on Sunday. From just a simple request in a booking note, y’all went above and beyond to make sure my beautiful Bella felt special. Also the food was absolutely incredible, if we weren’t in such a rush to get out of there to make our next booking we would have doubled our order! We will be back very soon, and this time we’ll be sure to take PT to avoid the parking nightmare that is high st so that we can actually get there on time! Appreciate y’all, and everything that y’all do. What an incredible business! We’ll see you very soon, you’ve earned customers for life. ❤️ ~ Alex
This place never disappoints me! I simply love this place. The atmosphere, food, service and vibe of this place is amazing. Located on high street, next to chemist wearhouse, this is a vegan restaurant with many options. Reservations are highly recommended as this place is busy during weekends. Kitchen closes at 8:30pm, so make sure you order before that. They have a wide range of vegan menu, you name it and you get it. It’s been six years I have been going to this place and never disappointed:) Kids friendly, they have a screen playing kids video. Staff is super friendly and very much accommodating. Coming on to the food, try their Nasi Gorang with duck, their Souvlaki, Wantons and much more. If you are looking for vegan options or if you are tired of eating non veg, than this is the place. ~ nav s
5 stars for Brother Bon for me! From variety on the menu to how tasty everything was, they nail it! I’m not a vegan but I think they do vegan food justice and I definitely did not miss the meat. We actually ordered quite a bit of food - from starters to mains to their huge drinks list too! Some of my favourites (pictured) and recommended if you had to pick! - dragon roll with ‘prawn’ - summer salad roll (honestly so delicious I could eat a few more servings of this!) - ‘chicken Katsu’ sando — seasoned perfectly and didn’t recall myself searching for the meat - drinks - loved the iced black sesame latte, nutty and creamy. yum! Can’t imagine how much vegans would love this spot because as a non-vegan I’m quite sold. Also they literally have something for everyone - the menu goes on for 4 pages so you’ll definitely find something for yourself! ~ Viv
I cannot believe it has taken me this long to write a review for this amazing restaurant. My partner introduced me to Brother Bon and it has quickly become my favourite place to eat of all time. Their menu is to die for and includes a large variety of mouth-watering choices. Some of my favourites are the Japanese curry, the sizzling duck in plum sauce, the sweet and sour pork, and the pad thai. Everytime I go, I'm troubled because I can't choose between getting the same as last time or trying something new, that's how good they are! The staff are so lovely and there is always space to pop by for dinner despite always having customers. Lots of love for Brother Bon! ~ Madi W
10/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone. I have absolutely LOVED Every experience I have had here!!! The staff are friendly, the food is AMAZING and the service is GREAT!!! The Southern Fried Chicken is AMAZING!!! And their desserts are SO good!!! I had a chocolate Jam Donut that reminded me of the one's I used to get as a child! My only issue is they are no longer super close to where I live and I can't get them on Uber Eats where I am as I'd LOVE to be able to eat there more often. I have nothing but good to say about them. They are also GREAT with events too as they have lots of room and are happy to reserve tables for you if needed in advance. ~ Summah T
This restaurant is so amazing that I've made arrangements to exchange my own brother with this whimsical genius chef "brother Bon". This Bon served a wonderous , tender duck that even impressed my father who is a 76 year old roast chook guy through and through. He went I to heaven and back (metaphorically) while eating this duck. All of the food was perfection. Therefore I've decided it would be best to take this magical Bon to my family house so he may cook for our family dinners- and the restaurant Brother Bon may have my own brother there as a chef. I apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. I think this exchange will bring great happiness to my family, but the township of Northcote will suffer greatly as a result. We do love my brother and will visit him on occasion when he is working at Brother Bon. Beautiful restaraunt. IG @saravingreviews Bon, we will pick you up tomorrow at noon - please have your bags packed. ~ Sarah G
Incredible food, warm and friendly service and an amazing vibe and atmosphere. This place is seriously one of the best run restaurants in Melbourne for both vegans and non vegans. The love and care put into everything is second to none. I love the little couch area and projecter that plays what looks like anime on the wall and all the beautiful plants. They make sure the takeaway dishes still look nice and don't come in all plastic containers which is seriously commendable. Have never been disappointed! Too hard to pick one dish to recommend as they are all so tasty.. Thank you all at Brother Bon and keep up the brilliant work ~ Danielle A
Great food, all vegan asian style meals, for "mock meat" options there's duck, chicken, fish, pork, and beef as well as tofu and eggplant. Plenty of seats inside, and always packed full people. There's parking available at the back of the restaurant. The taste is great, and on the expensive side of meals. Worth it if you're a vegetarian on the lookout for good food. Located on High St, next to Chemist Warehouse near the traffic lights, you won't be able to miss it. It use to be the old NQR store 15 years ago, before being turned into a vegetarian (loving hut) restaurant. ~ Amilliah
We had one of the specials, Hanoi chicken pho. Best pho we've ever had. Also had the katsu chicken Sando w/ chips & gravy, phenomenal. As an appetizer we got the satay chicken sticks, wow. I've been looking for satay sticks that tasted like the ones me and my family had on a holiday to Broome when I was young and I'm happy to say I've finally found them, and they're not even real meat. The experience made me weep with joy! Going back to try the entire menu for sure. Brother Bon is a real one 🫶🏽 It's a special place that now holds dearly a home in my heart 😁🧿 ~ Lemony S
Was stoked to discover this place has Asian flavours of gelato, a rarity in Northcote. Service was great :) They allowed me to sample the flavours and went for ube. The ube has a strong aromatic nutty tone, but I found the other flavours to be more subtle than preferred. The texture was soft but not super smooth, slightly gritty, but nonetheless incredibly indulgent and satisfied my abrupt craving. Gelato is not their speciality so super understandable. The ambience seems very warm and intimate inside, would love to return for their savoury dishes. ~ Betty S
Today Wednesday 13th November, we had the best experience at Brother Bon. From arrival, the girl at the entrance (Kaho is her name I reckon) received us with a beautiful smile and allowed us to choose the table (we got there early so we could), and had: pad thai with chicken (VEGAN, EVERYTHING IS VEGAN), and pepper noodles, bother were really tasty and good portions, and for dessert: an amazing Crème Brúleé and a Matcha Parfait that we couldn't be happier!! Thanks Brother Bon, Service Staff and Cooks!! Well Done 👏 ✔️ 👍🏼 we'll be back soon. ~ Laura A
I’ve ordered from here multiple times and it’s always delicious! It’s become one of my favourite restaurants. I’ve had their fish and chips twice. The fish is so succulent and delicious, with an expert batter. The chips were also crispy as heck, despite the delivery trip. I had their pho with ‘beef’ and it’s now in my top 2 fave pho places! I also really loved their chili oil wontons and Aussie burger. Just absolute amazing. Even my girlfriend who eats meat and is a chef was delighted by the food, and said she’d order from them herself (which is rare!) ~ Jordana A
I adore Brother Bon. I’ve eaten most items on the menu over the years I’ve been a happy customer, with maybe only one dish once not quite hitting the spot. In saying that, I’m there at least once a fortnight so 1 out of 100’s ain’t so bad! Love the serving size, freshness and service. Everything from healthy delicious salads, to hearty stir-fry’s, to incredible comfort junk food. AND! The addition of the lunch menu is incredible! Shared the avocado toast and the tofu scramble and it was the tastiest brunch I’ve had in a long time. Zero pretentiousness, incredible food and friendly people. ~ Wendy D
The long wait is over where they have renamed themselves from Loving Hut to Brother Bon! Where they have now incorporated brunch and liquor! Definitely a new chilled vegan atmosphere. The food is just sensational and flavourful with their mock meats. My personal favourite is the Japanese curry on white rice with duck. I've yet to try out their brunch menu in which I'll be coming back very soon. Definitely recommendable place to satisfy your tummy even if your not vegan, you won't be disappointed. ~ Michael N
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brother Bon is an absolute gem! As a devoted vegan, finding a restaurant that not only offers mouthwatering dishes but also delivers exceptional service is a rare treat. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The variety on the menu is impressive, and every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The rotty and chicken curry were delightful, the Nasi Goreng was a flavorful journey, and the peanut satay udon noodles left us craving for more. And let's talk about Bon's fried chicken and the crispy buttermilk chicken burger – absolute game-changers! And don't even get me started on the gelato – a heavenly finale to an already extraordinary meal. The staff were incredibly attentive, ensuring our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. Plus, the easy parking around the back made getting there a breeze. Brother Bon is more than just a restaurant; it's a haven for food enthusiasts, vegans, and anyone who appreciates fantastic food and impeccable service. Highly recommended! ~ Josephine C
My favourite place to eat in Melbourne. Flawless food, great, friendly service and 100% vegan. We have had a few gatherings here with both vegan and non vegan friends all were extremely happy and amazed at the quality of food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommended for vegans and non vegans. They also have a selection of fabulous cocktails. Asian noodles, burgers, waffles, rice, the menu is huge, the only problem I ever have is deciding what to have and each time it becomes my new favourite! 5 stars all round. ~ Darin B
Never tried a vegan restaurant before, and I have always found this restaurant extremely busy . I was sceptical on the mock vegan option of chicken and beef .Was mind blown by the similarity to real meat. My friends and I enjoyed the food so much, didn't feel like we missed anything by choosing vegan. As it was a new experience for all of us. Will visit again. The customer service was excellent. I am not sure if they take walk ins, but i highly recommend to book online in advance especially on weekends. ~ Ranjana T
Brother Bon has always been one of the most recommended vegan places to go to so I'm so glad I finally got to go. The menu is so extensive I wanted to try everything! My husband who is omni was also actually pleased! We got the tofu bites, Taiwanese popcorn chicken and the lion's mane from the specials and they were delicious. There's also gelato and other desserts and they do takeaway. Plus, the staff are attentive and friendly. We shall definitely go back! ~ lui g
